Let’s set off on the roads in the south of the Luberon to visit the most beautiful villages and their castles.
We will start our trip by visiting Lourmarin, located at the foot of the Luberon mountain. This village classified as one of the “most beautiful villages in France” blends into a harmonious and picturesque landscape with its narrow windy streets, its fountains and vintage houses. In summer Lourmarin is very lively thanks to its numerous café terraces, restaurants and Provençal shops and is one of the highlights among villages in the Luberon. You can visit its castle, called Small Médicis Villa of Provence. The present building has been meticulously restored and is composed of two castles side by side. From the terraces of this medieval fortress, you can enjoy the most beautiful views in the village.
All the charms of Provence can be found in the wonderful streets of the village of Ansouis. You’ll visit “one of the most beautiful villages in France” dominated by its Renaissance castle, an architectural gem built on the foundations of a fortress of the Middle Ages.
We’ll arrive at La Tour d’Aigues, a charming small town overlooking the plain of the Eze. Its magnificient Renaissance castle rises up like a theatre set in the Provençal sun. The old monument is seen alongside innovative discoveries devised by modern techniques: you can indeed go for a “musical stroll” in the castle courtyard as the old stones start to ring. The castle houses the Earthenware Museum where a remarkable exhibition of earthenware items made between 1750 et 1780 are displayed, like for example the castle’s dinner service marked with the owner’s coat of arms.
