Set out to discover and explore two unique villages, classified amongst “the most beautiful villages in France” : Gordes and Roussillon.
You’ll adore the exceptional setting of the village of Gordes. Perched 400m up a hillside, Gordes overlooks the Calavon valley with its church and Renaissance castle at the top, facing the surrounding hills. You can stroll along the paved streets where the slope has been transformed into steps, and you’ll discover its tall houses built straight into the rock, its archeological remains and its wonderful views.
You’ll discover the Bories village, a village of dry stone huts which were still inhabited in the last century. This unique place is the biggest and most complete of its kind in the world.
We’ll stop at the Notre Dame de Sénanque Abbey, a wonderful example of 12th century Cistercian art. It’s still used as a monastery and is surrounded by lavender fields.
Roussillon is a little village perched on an ochre cliff (clay earth pigment), surrounded by spectacular scenery. It is located in the heart of the biggest ochre deposit in the world. You’ll love its picturesque streets and little village squares, with its houses in different shades of the rich palette of yellow and red ochres.
