The cardinals’ city, Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, has a unique historic heritage with
the imposing Saint-André Fort, the Val de Bénédiction Carthusian Monastery and the
Philippe le Bel Tower.
Having crossed the Rhône, the Papal city can be seen overlooking the famous Pont
d’Avignon or Saint-Bénezet Bridge which leads to the very centre of Avignon, surrounded
by its majestic ramparts. Through narrow streets you can reach the Popes’ Palace
for an unforgettable cultural visit.
To complete this private tour, we will head for Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where the Popes
of Avignon were highly instrumental in developing the vineyards. The Châteauneuf
vineyards cover 3,300 hectares and are worked by nearly 300 wine growers. Destination
to a famous wine estate for a guided visit of the casks and oak barrels in the wine
cellars and a personal invitation by the owner to taste his best vintages. Cross
the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and on to the castle at the top to enjoy a wonderful
view of the vineyards, the Rhône Valley, Avignon and its Popes’ Palace, the Alpilles,
Luberon, Mont Ventoux…
