The wines of the Côtes du Rhône Gardoises

Cornillon - Sabran - Tavel

Dep: 2.30pm / Ret: 6.30pm

Guided tour of the wine cellars and wine tasting included

We’re offering you the opportunity to discover a selection of the very finest vineyards of the Côtes du Rhône Gardoises. You’ll enjoy a red carpet welcome from the vineyard owners, who will be delighted to take you on a tour of their cellars to sample their best wines.

We’ll start this ‘discover the wines of the Côtes du Rhône’ tour at a wine estate that seamlessly combines tradition and modernity: the Château Saint Nabor at Cornillon. The Castor family have been producing fine wines of exceptional quality for 7 generations and are now practitioners of sustainable farming methods. The estate currently covers almost 140 hectares and produces nearly 1 million bottles of Côtes du Rhône red, rosé and white wines each year. After the vineyard tour is over, it’s off to the cellars – located in part of what was once the cloister of an 11th Century abbey for a tasting session.

Next stop, Sabran, where we’ll explore all that the Château de Boussargues has to offer. Prepare to be amazed right at the very first glimpse of this incredibly rich historical site. From your vantage point in the château (built between the 12th and 15th Century), revel in the glorious panorama stretching out before you, with views over the plateau, the chateau grounds and its age-old oaks and of course, the vineyard itself. You’ll savour both Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Villages wines in cellars hidden away in the deepest recesses of the castle. The listed 12th Century chapel, also located in the château grounds, is just a short stroll away and is open to visitors.

We will also take in the Domaine de la Réméjeanne. This vineyard, sited at the heart of a natural environment where the landscapes of both Provence and the Cevennes come together, boasts breathtaking views of Mont Ventoux. Its 38 hectares of vines are located between 200 and 280 metres above sea level. The vineyard owner’s passion for and love of wine led him to change over to organic farming methods in 2007, enabling him to bring out all the balance, generosity and local character (terroir) that are to be found in the Réméjeanne’s wines.

The final destination on this wine tasting tour is the Tavel wine region. Justly-famous for its generous rosés, this area is located on the sun-drenched Vallongue plateau and stretches out over more than 1,000 hectares of vines. Known as the ‘premier rosé de France’ (France’s first rosé wine), Tavel received A.O.C classification in 1937. Although its history is linked to that of Côte du Rhône Gardoise wines, Tavel’s origins belong to much earlier times, as proved by documentary evidence of vine sales, unearthed as long ago as the end of the 9th Century. Tavel is thus the oldest rosé wine in France. We will explore the Domaine de la Mordorée, with its more than 60 hectares of vines and its famous and quite extraordinary Châteauneuf-du-pape wines. The estate also produces the best Lirac wines available, not to mention one of the finest white wines in the region, as well as the renowned Tavel rosé wine, an internationally-famous wine that has won a whole raft of awards. The tasting session will be preceded by a guided tour of the cellar led by the wine grower.

To bring this private tour through some of the region’s vineyards and wine cellars to a close, we’ll pass through the Tavel vineyard to the viewpoint indicator, where we can take in some magnificent views of this unique wine-producing area and the other diverse landscapes of our region.
